Empower yourself with the answers to our most common questions
Our goal at Ferreras Counseling is to ensure that you always feel heard and respected in your relationships. That begins before you step foot through our doors
Choosing a counseling practice is a personal decision. You may have questions. We’d like to answer them all
On this page, you’ll find some of the most common questions. Read through them and if you don’t find your question below, we would love to hear from you

How can therapy help me?
Some people come to therapy with a specific goal in mind- maybe you’ve experienced something that was confusing or traumatic. Maybe you’re struggling to adjust to a change you weren’t prepared for, or you’re looking for new ways to handle old habits. Perhaps you don’t quite know, but here you are- and here we are
Therapy is not just for those who feel broken or can identify their trauma. Therapy is for you, so you can move through your life and this world as your authentic self instead of what’s happened to you
Therapy can:
Help modify behaviors
Extinguish anger impulses
Reduce Anxiety
Increase problem solving
Introduce new coping skills
What can you do for me that I can’t do for myself?
Even in therapy, you’re going to do the work yourself. By introducing a therapist who is skilled in offering new perspectives and tools to navigate your world, we will simply take away the guesswork of the work you have to do
You are profoundly capable of significant growth. You are also deserving of doing that work with the support of someone educated in making sure it’s productive
Coming to therapy to do that work is you helping yourself. It is a brave and self-aware step toward healing. We can make that step feel much more attainable
I’ve never been to therapy, what’s going to happen?
In general, you should prepare yourself by having your standard health information on hand- your history, date of birth, and an outline of your family or support network. From there, we will work together through questions and ideas to find the therapeutic tools that will help you most. What you won’t find is judgement. We’re happy to answer specific questions about the process for you over the phone, but the general process often looks like this:
Consultation
First appointment/intake
Establishing a visit schedule
For more details about what each of those steps entails, visit our What to Expect page
While the ways we track your progress may be different if you’re coming here at the discretion of a court or professional body, it changes nothing about the way you will be supported in your therapeutic appointments
No matter what brings you through our doors, you will be treated with respect and discretion here. You will still be doing the work of creating accountability and modifying your behaviors alongside the expert care of our therapists. This work is yours, this space is yours, and no matter who asked you to come here- this is for you
We are committed to honoring and respecting that in the way we conduct ourselves- from appointments to reporting back about your progress, you are the priority.
Do You Speak My Language?
If I speak Spanish and my kids speak English, how will our sessions look?
Your sessions will be tailored to the needs of your family and if those needs include differing primary languages, we will help you select a therapist who can best support your communication.
By selecting a therapist who is bilingual in your and your children’s primary languages, we will ensure you each have accessible and compassionate care at equal levels, no matter which language is spoken.
What if my first language is Spanish, will my therapist understand me?
Ensuring you are comfortable and feel heard is an important part of what we do at Ferreras Counseling. We will ensure your therapist is equipped to understand and support you in the language you feel confident in.
Many of our therapists speak Spanish, either as a first language or one they’ve acquired fluently. Your therapist will be able to offer you compassionate and culturally competent services in Spanish.
What if my first language is English?
Our therapists are committed to offering a supportive and open environment in English as well as Spanish. If your first (or only) language is English, we are happy to ensure all communication is done in English.
We work hard to ensure you have the language to advocate for yourself, and that we have the listening skills to enrich your tools in doing so. In English or Spanish, our clients will find culturally and linguistically appropriate care to nourish their needs.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, we do accept most Massachusetts insurance plans and offer a sliding fee scale for those seeking support outside of insurance
How do I know which counselor is the right fit for me?
We have therapists with a variety of skills and expertise, ready to help support you through this next journey. Knowing which is the right one can feel overwhelming, but through the Therapist Profiles, we hope you can get to know some of our talented team. If someone stands out, you’re well on your way. If you’re still feeling unsure, our admissions coordinator will be happy to help you identify the best fit
